Tuesday's minors: LF Rhys Hoskins homers again, ditto for Lakewood's Darick Hall

A look at the results of Tuesday’s games for the Phillies farm system.


NORFOLK 7, LEHIGH VALLEY 6 — LF Rhys Hoskins (1-for-5) hit his 28th home run of the season and C Nick Rickles had a two-run single for the IronPigs (67-49) . . . CF Dylan Cozens singled and scored twice.

Hoskins is hitting .280 on the season and he’s hit four homers in 29 at-bats in the month of August. He’s played the last two nights in leftfield (two putouts, no errors on Tuesday) after spending his entire pro career at first base. Hoskins’ 28 home runs are the most by a Phillies Triple-A player since Jerry Keller hit 28 in 1983.

By the way, Ryan Howard’s career high for Triple-A home runs was 16 in 2005.

READING 5, ALTOONA 4 (10 Inn.) — 1B Kyle Martin had three hits — including a three-run home run — and scored twice to lead the Phillies (60-53), who went ahead when C Chace Numata singled home Damek Tomscha (single, double) in the top of the 10th . . .  LF Cord Sandberg (double, RBI) had three hits.


TAMPA 1, CLEARWATER 0 — SS Jose Gomez, 1B Wilson Garcia, 3B Zach Green and C Austin Bossart each had one of the four singles for the Threshers (23-22) . . . Starter Seranthony Dominguez (3-2, 2.47) gave up one run in four innings while Harold Arauz (1.88 ERA) gave up just one hit in the other four innings for Clearwater.


WEST VIRGINIA 2, LAKEWOOD 1 — DH Darick Hall (three hits, double) hit a solo home run for the BlueClaws (20-25). It was Hall’s 22nd of the season leaving him two behind the franchise record set last season by Jose Pujols, who is currently with Clearwater . . . RF Jesus Alastre added two hits . . . C Colby Fitch walked thrice . . . LHP Nick Fanti (ND, 7-2, 2.72) struck out seven in five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. He walked none.


STATEN ISLAND 3, WILLIAMSPORT 2 — 1B Greg Pickett hit a solo homer for the Crosscutters (24-20) . . . 2B Jake Scheiner, CF Adam Haseley (RBI) and DH Josh Stephen each added two hits . . . SS Nick Maton walked three times and scored a run . . . LHP Kyle Young (ND, 5-0, 1.81) struck out seven and walked none in 5.1 innings. He allowed two earned runs on two hits.


PHILLIES 8, PIRATES 2 — C Rafael Marchan had a double, knocked in three runs and scored another for the Phillies (22-14) . . . CF Simon Muzziotti had two hits and scored twice . . . LF Danny Mayer LF (single, walk) and 3B Keudy Bocio (two walks) each came around to score twice.
